Project Name: Waltezky Residence

Specifier: Kent GreenhouselDian Barnes

Project Location: Pleasantville, NY

Date of Installation: August 2008

Why are the islands needed?
The owner is looking to use island to disguise pump aeration system, to improve water quality and to create fish and wildlife habitat in pond.

Project Details:

1/3 acre pond that is part of a bio filtration system for surrounding residential properties. The pond is spring fed, lined with bentonite and is approximately 9 feet deep. The landscape architect was looking for a way to improve water quality (due to removal of the aerator), disguise the pump system for the pond and provide wildlife habitat in the pond. Geese have been a problem for the shoreline plantings and there is a desire to provide alternative habitat locations for the waterfowl other than the shoreline. A single 90 square foot island was installed in the summer of 2008 and more are planned for 2009.
